One Day Workshop - Leadership And The Making Of History

Introduction

The Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy (BALPP) proudly presents “Leadership and the Making of History,” an intensive, high-impact one-day workshop designed for forward-thinking individuals, professionals, and aspiring leaders.

Throughout history, societies have consistently arrived at critical turning points that demand exceptional vision, resilience, and the courage to adapt. Because change is inevitable, the manner in which leaders respond ultimately defines the trajectory of nations.

Facilitated by renowned independent researcher, author, columnist, and analyst Uditha Devapriya, this interactive workshop bridges historical precedents with modern leadership challenges.

Participants will dive deep into the strategic frameworks, tough compromises, and pragmatic decisions that have shaped iconic global personalities and reshaped our world.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Analyze Historical Leadership Frameworks: Examine how iconic global personalities steered societies through periods of acute adversity, instability, and transformation.

Cultivate Strategic Decision-Making: Understand the balance between ideological conviction, pragmatism, and compromise when managing complex crises.

Develop Adaptive Leadership Skills: Empower participants with actionable insights on adaptability and resilience to navigate contemporary governance and organizational challenges.

Foster Critical Discussion: Provide a collaborative space for professionals to critique historical case studies and apply lessons learned to current socioeconomic and political landscapes.

Teaching Methodology

To ensure maximum engagement and deep knowledge retention, the workshop shifts away from traditional, passive lecturing in favor of an interactive and experiential approach:

> Case Study Analysis: Deep-dives into pivotal historical moments, dissecting the precise choices made by prominent leaders under intense pressure.

> Interactive Dialogues & Debates: Guided group discussions allowing participants to debate alternative strategies, outcomes, and the ethical dilemmas of leadership.

> Pragmatic Application Frameworks: Structured exercises where historical strategic models are mapped onto modern corporate, institutional, and public policy scenarios.

> Q&A and Analytical Sessions: Direct engagement with the facilitator to unpack complex historical narratives and extract universal leadership principles.
