Leadership in the Arts. Pathways to Social Impact is a five-week interdisciplinary programme designed for practitioners, educators, activists, and professionals interested in understanding how artistic practice intersects with leadership, public influence, and social change. The course examines the arts as a serious domain of civic power, focusing on how culture, performance, visual media, and storytelling shape public opinion, mobilise communities, and contribute to long-term social transformation.
Drawing on regional and global case studies, participants will explore how creative movements have influenced political moments, policy debates, and collective identities. The programme treats artists and cultural workers as strategic actors within society, examining the ways artistic expression operates within media systems, public discourse, and grassroots mobilisation. Emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, strategic communication, and the practical application of creative tools to real-world social and civic challenges.
The course brings together experienced writers, artists, festival organisers, and cultural practitioners, offering participants direct exposure to diverse perspectives across disciplines. Sessions are structured to encourage discussion, reflection, and collaboration, allowing participants to connect theory with lived practice. Over the five weeks, participants will strengthen their ability to think critically about culture, communicate persuasively, and engage meaningfully with communities across social and political contexts.
Leadership in the Arts is particularly suited for those working in activism, education, media, cultural institutions, and public-facing roles, as well as emerging leaders seeking to incorporate creative approaches into their professional practice. The programme also provides opportunities to build networks with artists, educators, and civic leaders, supporting future collaboration and collective action.
