Inside Edge – Workshop for Parliamentary Executives

The Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy (BALPP) partnered with the Parliament of Sri Lanka to conduct a two-day executive workshop titled “Inside Edge: Adaptive Leadership for Parliamentary Executives”, held on the 14th and 15th of October 2025 at the Parliament Complex. This high-level training initiative was designed specifically for the senior executive staff of Parliament, reflecting BALPP’s ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional leadership and ethical governance within Sri Lanka’s key democratic institutions.

The workshop explored the evolving demands of leadership in the parliamentary context : where adaptability, integrity, and effective communication are essential to maintaining public trust and administrative excellence. Participants engaged in intensive, practice-oriented sessions led by a distinguished panel of facilitators. Dr. Nirmal De Silva opened the programme with modules on Ethical Leadership and Integrity and a Case-Based Discussion on Ethical Dilemmas in Governance, emphasizing the importance of accountability, transparency, and value-driven decision-making in the public sector.

Mr. Peter D’Almeida followed with Module 2: Communication and Interpersonal Skills, guiding participants through the principles of effective leadership communication, active listening, and influence. His sessions concluded with simulation exercises and role plays, allowing participants to apply these concepts in realistic governance scenarios.

The second day featured Mr. Dhananath Fernando, who conducted sessions on Team Management and Motivation and Inclusive Leadership, addressing the human dimensions of parliamentary teamwork and delegation. Ms. Nalanga Hettiarachchi then led the final modules on Conflict and Change Management and Leading Change and Emotional Intelligence, helping executives develop strategies for navigating institutional transformation with empathy and resilience.

The programme concluded with an action-planning session and certificate ceremony, recognizing the participants’ commitment to continuous leadership development. Through Inside Edge, BALPP reaffirmed its partnership with the Parliament of Sri Lanka – demonstrating the Academy’s role in cultivating capable, ethical, and adaptive leaders equipped to strengthen public institutions in an era of rapid political and administrative change.
