With over three decades of teaching experience at the University of Colombo, Dr. Janaki Jayawardena is a pioneer in cultural history, particularly focused on gender and women’s issues. Holding a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies from the University of York, UK, and an M.Phil. in History from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, the academic journey reflects a commitment to excellence, highlighted by numerous accolades, including a Commonwealth Scholarship.

A linguistic adept in Sinhala and English, this historian’s expertise extends beyond the classroom. A published author and presenter at international conferences, their work delves into societal barriers, transformative politics, and the colonial legacy’s impact on gender and nationalism. Their publications, including a book review in Feminist Theory, showcase a dedication to advancing knowledge in cultural history.
